Alyson’s a year old!

Wednesday, November 30th, 2005

Alyson sure has grown up in her first week as a one-year-old. She’s starting to walk more, and she’s teething again (finally). I was beginning to wonder if any more teeth were ever coming in She’s also communicating more. She’s certainly a Mommy’s girl at this point. She signs ‘eat’ and something like ‘gimme!’ She’s chattery and loves to blow kisses and wave.

While she’s doing great, I’ve gotten this stupid cold again. I’m hoping to kick it before Brandon’s party on Saturday. I can’t believe he’s almost 4! He’s really looking forward to his race car party!

Sick kids

Wednesday, October 12th, 2005

Well, i took two of the three kids to the doctor tonight for these coughs that have been lingering. Sounds like we’ll need to get Christian in tomorrow.

Alyson has the crud and is on antibiotics. She slurped them right down too 🙂

Brandon is also on antibiotics. He spit it out. I don’t know how I’m going to get him to swallow them tomorrow. The rest of the appointment was interesting though. The doctor (actually we saw the clinic nurse) said that Brandon’s ongoing cough is probably an immune response – not exactly asthma, but similar. She said he may grow out of it, but she said it’s very common when they have sensitive skin (Brandon’s only other prescription ever was Elidel for excema). She also found it interesting that Bill has asthma/allergies. So Brandon now gets to try kid Claritin every day, and he gets to try Alyson’s nebulizer. Great fun.

One thing I wanted to write about Brandon that’s so funny. The kid is obsessed with gas stations. He points out every single one we ever pass, tells us what color it is, and asks if we need gas. Too funny 🙂

Well, Alyson’s in the bathtub (love having a laptop) and her water just ran out (the seal wasn’t good), so I need to get her a bit more water and get her washed up. Hopefully they’ll all be feeling better again soon.

October already?!?

I don’t know where the last few weeks went.

Good news:

Alyson is starting to stand on her own for a few seconds at a time. She gives kisses 🙂 She eats almost only finger food.

Heartbreaking news:

Poor Christian and his best friend since Kindergarten Gabe had a falling out yesterday. He was really upset. Today they’re fine again LOL. But the poor kid yesterday afternoon wrote some sort of flame mail to Gabe and wanted to mail it.

Must see:

GO SEE SERENITY! Bill and I went and saw the movie Serenity on opening night last Friday. I laughed, I cried. It was a great movie. We both want to see it again. PLEASE go see it, and go see it soon! I want more people to talk about it with 🙂

More good news:

I got a call on Sunday from Brandon’s Sunday School teacher (I stayed home sick – yuck). She was just calling to tell me what a delight he was in class. He remembered his entire verse (God is patient, and he wants everyone to repent.) He remembered it all except for the 2 Peter 3:9 part. It was so nice to hear. Brandon can be such an uncontrollable powerhouse of energy, it’s nice to know he does well in class.

Silly kid:

Christian’s first ASB meeting was last week. It is held during lunch recess. He FORGOT to go at first. He said he RAN and he missed a lot, but he did get a treat. LOL.

Alyson – 10 months!

Sunday, September 18th, 2005

It’s been a challenging week. Everyone is sick in one way or another. Bill has the fever and no voice. I have the headaches. Christian is just sniffly. Brandon has the cough. Alyson has been fine, but it looks like she’s getting the runny nose.

Poor kid is just getting too mobile for her own good. It took FOREVER to get her to sleep last night (and I tried everything). She’s just so interested in climbing, she had a terrible time being still long enough to fall asleep!

So at 10 months, Alyson:

climbs stairs

can stand up in her crib and playpen

cruises back and forth along the coffee table

crawls super fast

eats 3 solid meals with us most days (and usually eats what we eat)

drinks about 2 bottles of formula a day, and has sippy cups of water everywhere

is beautiful 🙂

is very smiley when she wakes up in the morning and has a great sense of humor already

loves mommy, daddy, brothers, and kitties very very much

I think that’s about it for today – I’m sure there’s more and I’ll try to add to it later.

First day of school

Tuesday, September 6th, 2005

Well, Christian got off to his first day of 1st grade no problem. He was very excited to find out at the bus stop that Gabe is in his class again this year. I’m excited to hear how his day went when he gets home this afternoon.

I took the day off of work, but when contractors are around I don’t really get days off work, so Brandon and Alyson and I went in for an hour… poor Brandon was painfully shy. He didn’t even speak to Crystal! For some reason he did talk to Tamara a little bit though. Alyson studied everyone. Crystal and Lawrence got waves, but pretty much everyone else just got stared at.

We took Alyson for her blood draw at the hospital and it was great – they pricked her heel and she didn’t cry a single bit, even with the two little vials they filled. Amazing.

That’s it for now… hopefully more later when Christian gets home.

Alyson – 9 months!

Tuesday, August 30th, 2005

Alyson’s 9 month doctor’s appointment was last night. She is 17 pounds, 11 ounces (Christian was 17 lbs at this age). She’s getting so big so fast! Dr thinks she’ll be walking very soon (she’s already crawling really fast and standing at the coffee table for a long time). She must be going through a growth spurt too, she was up all night. I still have to take her in for a blood draw at the hospital sometime in the next few months, but she’s perfectly fine. She’s such a happy baby 🙂

Parenting is fun, right?

Wednesday, August 24th, 2005

Christian is very excited to go to 1st grade. He got a letter from his new teacher last weekend, welcoming him to first grade. He starts back to school on the 6th. Christian’s favorite part of Kindergarten was recess, so I know he’s looking forward to seeing his friends more than anything. He’s been doing well with his reading over the summer. His Kindergarten teacher sent home a workbook he was working through and suggested he finish it before 1st grade. He only has one page left, and he’s done great. I think I’ll make sure he has something like that to work on next summer too… it’s been a great way to keep his mind working in positive ways 🙂

It will be weird for us to send him to school without meeting his teacher first… I guess his school only does orientation for Kindergarten parents. The rest of the grades have a curriculum night on the 22nd of September. I’m looking forward to that. I hope it will be a fun school year for him.

Alyson has learned to pull herself up this week and she has started cruising a little bit… my oh my is she ever busy now 🙂 Monday is her next doctor’s appointment. I’ll be interested to find out what she weighs now.

Hopefully we’ll get our annual family portraits done in a couple of weeks… I definitely don’t want to wait until December this year!

I think that’s it for now… I’m not even going to start ranting about work (at least tonight).

*My darling Brandon climbed up on the bathroom counter and unscrewed the burned out lightbulbs this evening… only 1 of 2 broke, but glass was everywhere.

What a week…

Friday, August 12th, 2005

It has been quite a week. Last Saturday was terrible. It was one of those days that you wonder why God would trust me with children, particularly infants. I am encouraged that the boys have survived so far. It started early in the afternoon, when I was working on something in my office. I saw Alyson crawl in out of the corner of my eye. I felt her crawl under my chair. I didn’t think much of it until I heard her scream. I’m sure you can imagine my horror when I realized she had a cord in her hand. Not just any cord, of course. No. The shredder cord. The shredder cord that was plugged into the wall, but not into the shredder. Yep, she got a shock. Thankfully, dh could reassure me that there was very little voltage.

But wait! There’s more! Of course there is. Later the very same afternoon, I carried Alyson out to get the mail. I do this every afternoon. This particular beautiful afternoon, I slipped or something and the ground rushed up at me. I don’t think I’ve ever been so scared. When I picked myself up, Alyson was about a foot away, crying. Got her back inside and she was fine. She had a little bump on her head, but it was gone the next day.

Just to prove that she’s perfectly fine, she’s now suddenly climbing stairs, waving, and standing at every opportunity. It’s just me that should have a ton of gray hair by now!

Almost my birthday

Monday, August 1st, 2005

I’m excited for my birthday tomorrow. I took the day off of work. My plan? To sleep in. To enjoy breakfast with the kids. To take the boys to the Children’s Museum in Everett. To drop them off and go swimming by myself. To pick them all up and take the boys to their swimming class. And to go out to dinner at Claim Jumper and order whatever I want :). I just got some new clothes from LLBean today, and my raise showed up on my paycheck on Friday, so life is really good right now. Oh, and one of my coworkers said she’d refer a few tax clients my way. I’m not sure if I should be eternally grateful and honored or just terrified. She somehow attracts clients with the most complicated, convoluted tax situations. Regardless, I do feel honored. A little scared, too, though because I don’t have enough practical experience doing bookkeeping. But I guess we all have to start somewhere.

Christian wrote, “I cant wat for skool” on the whiteboard tonight… clever kid. Brandon is trying to not wet the bed tonight… I pray for him to stay dry! Alyson is such a joy. She is always smiling and giggling. If I could just capture that somehow and hold it close to my heart forever, I would.

New beginnings…

Monday, July 25th, 2005

Ok, so I’m finally trying this blog thing. I hope it will help me keep a record of what’s going on… every day flies by so fast.

Christian… I can’t believe he’s 6 already. He’s getting so tall. He has been really enjoying his swimming lessons. We’ll find out tomorrow if he passed to the next level, but we suspect not. That’s ok… for a kid that just started swim lessons a month ago, we think he’s doing great! Christian is looking forward to daycamp in a few weeks. It’s a bit scary, sending him off with strangers, but it sounds like a fun program. He’ll get to spend a day with the Everett Aquasox. I love that he is learning to read. Every now and then, he writes me a note that says, ‘For Mome I luv u Christian’ What a sweetheart.

Brandon… This kid has so much energy I just don’t know what to do with him sometimes. He scares me, the way he bursts around. I’m afraid he’ll hurt someone. At 3 1/2, he never stops. He can be very dramatic too. He desperately wants to help take care of Alyson, but he smothers her. The good news is that he is very loving. He also is doing great at swimming. I was worried for a while… I thought he’d never put his head under the water. Suddenly last week he got it! I am SO proud of him! We weren’t going to sign him up for August classes, but now that he’s gotten some momentum going, I think we’d better sign him up after all.

Alyson…

Well, Alyson’s info will have to wait for later. I just spent the last half hour upstairs with the kids. Darling boys managed to break their floor fan (something about trying to see out the window). When I got up there, the light was on, all three kids were awake and staring at their fan… in half… face down on the floor and still going. Great fun. Now Alyson is screaming because she is so tired. Let’s hope she goes to sleep soon so I can go to bed.
