It’s been an interesting month. I’m thrilled to be preparing taxes again. I’ve done 14 returns so far this year, which is short of my goal, but still respectable. Alyson is 15 months old already and very much a toddler… she certainly has a mind of her own. She has barged in on at least half of my tax interviews. I LOVE working at home. Sadly, I can’t do taxes full time yet.
BUT
There’s hope that I may be able to leave Orrtax and leave that horrible commute behind!
It’s actually funny… I was looking on the Edmonds School District site for something else… Christian’s teacher’s email address I think, when I saw a job posting for a Human Resources Data Technician. Seemed to be a bit of a stretch, qualification wise, but not much. It would be a 10k reduction in salary, but at least it was in Lynnwood. So I decided to apply for it.
Saturday, I was sitting here trying to figure out how to write the letter of application (it was one of those, ‘Address each of these responsibilities with specific examples’ things), which I went out and poked around in CraigsList. There, I stumbled upon a listing looking for a Software Tester. In Lynnwood. I’m interested. It was much easier to apply for this one, write quick cover-email and attach resume.
So I applied on Saturday and first thing this morning got an email back from their HR person. Talked with her on the phone for 15 minutes or so and I’m really excited about the idea of working for this company. Now I have a two hour interview scheduled for Thursday morning (which oddly I had already taken off of work to go volunteer in Christian’s classroom around lunch time). So far, everything about this opportunity has fallen right into place. Oh, and the salary? They may be able to match what I’m making at Orrtax.
So please keep me in your thoughts on Thursday, and pray I know the answers… the confirm email says the interview will consist mainly of my skills in understanding QA and “will dig in to see how you solve problems and in general how you think”, ack that sounds a little scary LOL.
